Design Build

Castle Rock Construction has been a leader in Design Build construction in the State of Colorado for nearly twenty years. The road building expertise CRCC brings to the table for the delivery of these projects to the traveling public is second to none.

In 1999 CRCC was awarded a Design Build contract by the Colorado Department of Transportation. Felsburg Holt & Ullevig of Centennial, Colorado was enlisted to join the team on the project as the design engineering partner. This contract was one of the very first experiences all three of these entities had with this type of contract. The $9.3 million project known as the Gobblers Knob Project (NH 2871-028) was one of some 14 projects CRCC constructed on the US 287 Ports to Plains Corridor from Limon, Colorado south to the Oklahoma state line. It consisted of over 192,000 square meters of 240 mm thick Concrete White-topping Pavement as well as structures, slope grading, storm water improvements, and a new Rest Area at the top of Gobblers Knob. The project was a resounding success and continues to serve the traveling public today.

In approximately the same years, CRCC built a 17 mile long project on I-25 from the Wyoming line south in northern Colorado. This project was also a Design Build contract with CDOT and was known as I-25 North of Owl Canyon (IR-IM(CX)025-3(113). DMJM worked hand in hand with CRCC as the Design Engineer allowing the project to be finished in 1999. Some 755,000 square yards of Concrete Paving were placed on the project which received numerous awards for quality and is performing well today.

Since those early days of Design Build, CRCC has been fortunate to participate in a number of Design Build endeavors. These include the I-70 Central Park Blvd. project at the Stapleton Redevelopment area for the City of Denver, and over 14 miles or 1.3 million square yards of Concrete Pavement on two major projects for CDOT on US 36, the Boulder Turnpike.

CRCC is currently slated to be a participant in the C470 expansion project running from I-25 west to Wadsworth Blvd. for CDOT and will continue to be the contractor of choice for the coming years when roads need to be built by Design Build.
